Technical Support - Shadowfax Mail Server Settings

Username / Account Name:

Always enter your full email address as your username.

Password:

Your password has been assigned by Shadowfax. You may log in to the shadowfax webmail interface at any time to change your password, or delivery options.

Incoming Mail (POP3) Settings

POP3 Server name: pop3.shadowfax.bc.ca

Account Name or
User Name Always use your full email address when asked for your account name or user name.

Use Secure Password
Authentication (SPA)? No.

Use SSL? Yes. (preferred but not mandatory) [more]

When using SSL, the first time you check mail, you will receive a warning message about the identity of the server. This is the expected, normal behaviour for this service. Choose OK, and continue.

If your mail program presents this warning to you frequently, then you may decide that the security offered by SSL is not worth the nuisance of having to acknowlege these warnings all the time. If you decide to turn off SSL, just make sure you're aware of the risks involved by doing so.

Port #: 995 for SSL
110 for Non-SSL

User Name You shouldn't need to specify this. In most programs, it will automatically use the same settings here as your incoming POP3 username & password.

You should always use SSL when given the choice, but it can sometimes be troublesome to get working correctly.

If your mail program nags you about the identity of the server every time you send mail, this will obviously be a nuisance, and you'll want to turn off outgoing SSL. Not all mail programs communicate with the server in exactly the same way. You may need to try more than one configuration before you find one that works.

Don't forget, the first time you connect you will be presented with a warning message about the identity of the server. This is expected, and OK.

In the order of what works the most:

Port 587. Try this first. Make sure SSL is turned on.

Port 465. also keeping SSL turned on.

Port 25. Most ISPs are blocking port 25 these days, so you may not be able to connect to this port from where you are. You'll know this is the case if your connection "times out".

If you still can't send mail, try port 587 or port 25 again, but without SSL.

If you still can't send mail out after having tried all 5 scenarios, please give us a call, and we'll give you a hand.

Authentication Type: Password
Your mail program may not ask this question at all (most don't), but if it does, choose the option that looks closest to "password", as opposed to "POP Before SMTP", "NTLM" and others.
